Why You Should Visit London

By Ruth Smith

As one of the main hubs of the world and star of a long and colourful history, the many attractions of England's capital, make it one of the top tourist destinations. There are therefore many reasons why you would visit London. You can find a lot of sightseeing gems very close to major tourist attractions, if you know where to start. Stay away from the horde of tourists who wander through the West End to attend the latest musical or cram themselves into a nightclub in the city.

Instead one reason to visit London is to uncover the "real" London, the other side of glamour and glitz that is in this city.

Highgate Cemetery

A visit to the cemeteries of London will give you the chance to meet some of its most famous celebrities, even if they are several metres underground. The Highgate Cemetery located in North London is best known of the London breaks, mainly because of a particular monument that crowns the tomb of Karl Marx, who spread the ideas of socialism to the masses. Some more notable residents of the cemetery include the scientist Michael Faraday, as well as some of the most beloved British writers such as Douglas Adams and George Eliot.

Medical Museum

If you want to learn more about the sinister side of London, the Old Operating Theatre will make a fascinating experience if you're not afraid of surgery. The Old Operating Theatre Museum, located in the Southwark area, houses a collection of historical surgical instruments used during the eighteenth and nineteenth century and it hosts the Herb Garret, a collection of medicinal plants and potions.

Fan Museum

Exploring the lesser-known attractions in London is not to ignore the magnificent places in the history of London while on your London breaks. One of these places is the Fan Museum located in Greenwich. Much more interesting than its name suggests, the museum is located in a building near the Greenwich Theatre and displays an incredible collection of fans from all over the world, and invites you to learn the intricate history or cultural relevance of each fan.

Royal Observatory

The Royal Observatory, also in Greenwich, will let people into the museum and observatory as people stand in the line. It is not possible to reserve tickets. You can enter for free and admire the famous building that the world uses to compare its time.

Therefore, a visit to London is a way to discover the unusual and eccentric side of London at your own pace. This can turn into a fascinating and rewarding experience.

Many companies offer interesting travel packages that are quite affordable when planning your trip. It is a good idea to book your London trip well in advance and buy a map of the city to visit places of interest before you go.
